You could say that Eric Sheninger has a special knack for thought leadership. For seven years, he served as principal of New Milford High School in New Milford, Connecticut with one goal in mind: to help his students excel in the new digital age.
As a result of this forward thinking ideology, Sheninger received several individual honors, including the NASSP Digital Principal Award (2012), PDK Emerging Leader Award (2012), Learning Forward’s Excellence in Professional Practice Award (2012) and a 2013 Bammy Award, among others. He is also a an Adobe Education Leader and a Google Certified Teacher.
Additionally, his A Principal’s Reflections blog received the Best School Administrator award in 2011 and 2013 by Edublogs, while also receiving the 2014 Editor’s Choice Content Award from Smartbrief Education.
Newsweek and The Daily Beast ranked New Milford High School in the top fourth percentile of high schools in the country, and the innovative education techniques not only represented a culture shift, but provided a much needed boost in individual student achievement.
Eric Sheninger retired as principal of New Milford in 2014 and today, spends his time promoting his book, “Digital Leadership,” and doing public speaking events across the country to help other principals implement changes that can be impactful for the schools under their charge and the students in their classrooms.
“The biggest asset for digital leaders is transparency,” Sheninger said in an interview with Connect Learning Today. “When we’re transparent about what we’re doing, we’re not second guessing ourselves anymore. Digital education leaders have so many tools and people to connect with; all can enable us to do what we do better.”
