Description: This course will cover aspects of communicative behavior for autism and other developmental disabilities. It will discuss autism and language including receptive language, autism communication skills, and non verbal autism. Emphasis is on a verbal behavior approach to teaching communication skills and will include functional communication training, augmentative and alternative communication strategies, symbol exchange systems and speech generating devices, and evidence-based practices for assessing, teaching, and evaluating interventions for improving communicative behavior of learners with autism and other developmental disorders.
